Presidential Debate Road Closures

 

Beginning at 6:00 am Monday, October 22, 2012 and lasting until 2:00 am Tuesday, October 23, 2012 the following roads will be closed by the Boca Raton Police Services Department for the Presidential Debate at Lynn University.

 

• Military Trail from Yamato Road to Potomac Road.
• Potomac Road from NW 24^th Ave to Military Trail.
• Spanish River Blvd from Broken Sound Blvd to Military Trail.

 

*Other road closures should be anticipated throughout the debate period.

Two Leading Nonprofits - AVDA – Aid to Victims of Domestic Abuse and

Habitat for Humanity of Southern Palm Beach County

Team Up for Pick-up and Sale of Donated Goods

 

 

AVDA – Aid to Victims of Domestic Abuse, Inc. is teaming up with Habitat for Humanity of Southern Palm Beach County for the collection and sale of donated items such as furniture, and home goods to strengthen the opportunity to serve those in need.

  Individuals and businesses, who wish to donate new or gently used items to AVDA, now have a new number to call to arrange for pick up of goods: 1-855-288-AVDA (2832).  Items that cannot be used in AVDA’s emergency shelter will be sold in Habitat for Humanity’s ReStores with the proceeds benefiting AVDA.

  Items intended for AVDA donation may also be dropped off at Habitat for Humanity’s two “ReStore” locations in Southern Palm Beach County:

30-day warning period for red light cameras begins in Boca Raton

               

Boca Raton, FL – On October 13, 2010 the Boca Raton City Council approved red light cameras for certain intersections in the City.  Cameras began taking photos of red light runners at designated intersections in the City of Boca Raton on Thursday, March 15, 2012.  Cameras will operate 24 hours a day and capture still images and video of every vehicle running a red light at the intersections listed below. 

 

During the next 30 days, a warning notice will be issued to the registered owner of vehicles running red lights.  There will be no fine for this warning notice.

 

On April 14, 2012, the warning period will end.  Each violation thereafter will be reviewed and approved by the Boca Raton Police Services Department prior to an actual citation being issued. The registered owner may review the images online, and has the option to pay the fine or appeal the citation in court. These citations do not result in any points on the driver's record.

 

The safety cameras are located at:

• East & West bound Glades Road at NW 15 Street
• East bound Glades Road at St. Andrews Blvd

North bound St. Andrews Blvd at Glades Road

• North and South bound Federal Highway at NE 20 Street
• North and South bound Military Trail at Spanish River Blvd
• North and South bound Congress Avenue at Clint Moore Road
• East and West bound Glades Road at NW 2nd Avenue

Traffic alert from Boca Raton police

Due to the City of Boca Raton Holiday parade, on Wednesday, December 7th, Federal Highway will be closed from Camino Real to Glades Road from 5:30 PM until 11:00 PM. Please plan accordingly.

Keep it safe on Halloween

 

 

The Boca Raton Police Department wants to remind you that Halloween is one of the most enjoyable days of the year for children, but parents should be aware of the potential risks that can affect children who are not supervised properly. Here are some tips to keep it a safe Halloween.

 

Halloween safety tips for children and parents/guardians:

 

•  Costumes should be flame-retardant and allow children to walk freely without tripping.
•  Wear reflective or bright costumes at night.
•  Avoid wearing facial masks which may impair children’s ability to see, hear, and move.
•  Use non-toxic face paint and makeup.
•  Children should carry a flashlight.
•  Plan your route ahead of time, staying in your own neighborhood (or at      

 least familiar ones) and only along well-lit streets.

•  Always trick-or-treat with friends and stay in a group, there is safety in numbers.
•  Extra care should be taken on streets and at crossings, especially at dusk and after dark.   
•  Avoid crossing through yards, driveways and poorly lit areas.
•  Teach children to never approach a home that is not well lit, inside and out.
•  Children should never enter a home or a car for a treat.
•  An adult should always examine Halloween treats before children eat them. Never eat  

 open or unwrapped Halloween foods.

 

 

Halloween Safety Tips for Homeowners:

 

• Make your home inviting for trick-or-treaters; light up your home inside and out.
• Clear your yard and walkways of any obstructions for the trick-or-treaters.
• Use battery powered candles or glow sticks in your jack o'lanterns instead of real flames.
• Secure your pets to ensure they do not get frightened and inadvertently bite trick-or-treaters.

Coastal Boca Raton members: Someone asked recently when the Boca Boat parade would be... I just saw a call for entries from the city and they say it will be at 6:30 pm on 12/17. Hope this helps!
