Briny Breezes is officially off the market.
The 43-acre mobile home park’s contract with New York law firm Duane Morris to sell the park expired March 1 and, with it, the park’s obligation to pay hundreds of thousands of dollars in legal fees that have accumulated over the years, park board President Joe Coyner confirmed.
Briny Breezes Inc. hired the firm nearly a decade ago to sell the park for at least $500 million. When a $510 million sale to Boca Raton developer Ocean…

For the first time since the $510 million Ocean Land sale collapsed in 2007, the town of Briny Breezes took a careful first step toward allowing the town to be more than a mobile-home park.
After four public hearings and questioning by residents, the Town Council unanimously approved, in a series of votes, a new comprehensive land use plan that would allow traditional one- and two-story single family homes, a commercial corridor of…

Living proof that opposites attract — Lia and Tyrone found one another in 2004.
“I like a beer on the beach and she likes classical piano,” Tyrone explains. She’s the introvert; he most definitely is not.
When they met, Lia was an Iowa farm girl with just a few years of Florida living.…

Boynton Beach’s downtown fire station that helps serve Ocean Ridge and Briny Breezes will be brought back up to full staffing, thanks to a two-year grant that the Boynton Beach Commission agreed last month to accept.
Boynton Beach will hire seven new firefighters with the $967,000 grant, which will cover the cost of their salaries and benefits for two years. The city had cut its crew last year to save money in the 2011-12 budget.…

BRINY BREEZES — Gertrude Dombroski started spending her winters here in 1953 and became a permanent resident in the early 1980s.
She left, from her own bed, at 6:35 p.m. on Nov. 28, holding her daughter’s hand as I’ll Be Home For Christmas played on the stereo.
She…

More than six years ago, Briny Breezes residents voted to remake the town into a resort including 20-story towers, a 350-room beachfront hotel and rows of three-story condos.

BRINY BREEZES — On a Monday morning more than a decade ago, David Blonda was sharing a golf cart with a new resident, collecting aluminum cans for the town’s recycling club.
“I asked him where he was from,” Blonda recalled, “and he said, ‘A little town you never…

Palm Beach County towns and other agencies tallied $7.5 million in damage and cleanup costs when Tropical Storm Isaac’s feeder bands tarried too long in August.
Last month, federal disaster officials agreed to reimburse local governments for 75 percent of their disaster costs.
Former Briny Breezes Mayor Jack Lee says Briny ought to get in line for a slice of the aid.
The seawall along Mallard Drive pulled away from the land behind it, allowing water to flow on both…

Boynton Beach commissioners once again are talking about closing the city’s downtown fire station, which ran on more than half the calls in Ocean Ridge last year, to cut costs.

For the fourth consecutive year Briny Breezes homeowners likely will pay the maximum tax rate allowed by law — $10 for every $1,000 of taxable property value.
The tentative rate set by town aldermen after two budget workshops and a council meeting in July also means homeowners will pay the same amount of town taxes as this year if their property value remains the same.
Alderman Sue Thaler opposed the maximum rate. “In a town this small,…

Briny Breezes’ neighbors can rest easy. The oceanfront town-mobile home park has scotched any thought of high-rise condos and oceanfront hotels and will focus on a more low-key future — at least for now.
The nine-member board of the corporation that owns the park unanimously decided April 11 not to pursue the proposal by a Long Island developer to buy the park at a price to be named later.
“We did not have enough information on…

Briny Breezes Alderman Kathleen Bray resigned April 27, saying her husband’s out-of-state job prevented her from devoting the time necessary to serve the town.
Spending time with her husband, Larry, in Pennsylvania forced Bray to attend several meetings by conference call in the past year.
“When I’m not here, I don’t have a feel for what’s going on in the town,” she said.
Bray was appointed to the council in August 2008, ironically, after her husband, an alderman,…

About that plan to build high rise condos, an oceanfront hotel and shops where the mobile homes of Briny Breezes have set for decades?
Never mind.

“We did not have enough information on the sales price or the cost that would be incurred for…

Any efforts at moving Boynton Beach’s downtown fire station to Ocean Ridge are “on hold” and may remain so for perhaps months as Boynton Beach continues to try to sell three parcels of property that affect the city’s space needs.
The Boynton Beach City Commission rejected the single bid it got on one of the three parcels and agreed to change the city’s rules for sale of disposable property so it can enlist a real estate broker rather than…
