Along the Coast: Boynton fire station will return to full staff

Boynton Beach’s downtown fire station that helps serve Ocean Ridge and Briny Breezes will be brought back up to full staffing, thanks to a two-year grant that the Boynton Beach Commission agreed last month to accept.

    Boynton Beach will hire seven new firefighters with the $967,000 grant, which will cover the cost of their salaries and benefits for two years. The city had cut its crew last year to save money in the 2011-12 budget.…

Cities to study joint emergency response center

South County’s three largest cities have agreed to jointly fund a study to determine the feasibility and benefits of combining police, fire-rescue and emergency 911 calls into a single dispatch center.

    Boynton Beach, Boca Raton and Delray Beach have each agreed to pay one-third of the total cost — $18,000 each — to determine whether consolidation of dispatch services would improve service to residents of their three cities as well as reduce costs.

Delray Beach/Gulf Stream: Delray votes to raise Gulf Stream fire fees

Delray Beach will charge the Town of Gulf Stream about $38,000 a year extra for fire-rescue service to Ballantrae condominiums, the 4001 North Ocean project and other recently annexed parcels.

    Delray Beach city commissioners voted 3-1 to raise Gulf Stream’s annual fee almost 12 percent to $353,321 from the previously agreed-upon $315,580 which already was $15,035 more than the town paid this year. They also decided to make the increase effective March 15,…
