Briny Breezes: Park sales contract expires

Briny Breezes is officially off the market.

The 43-acre mobile home park’s contract with New York law firm Duane Morris to sell the park expired March 1 and, with it, the park’s obligation to pay hundreds of thousands of dollars in legal fees that have accumulated over the years, park board President Joe Coyner confirmed.

Briny Breezes Inc. hired the firm nearly a decade ago to sell the park for at least $500 million. When a $510 million sale to Boca Raton developer Ocean…

South Palm Beach: New inn owner wants ‘neighborly’ update to hotel

By Tim O’Meilia

The beleaguered Palm Beach Oceanfront Inn, which has stirred South Palm Beach politics for five years, has been sold to a Delray Beach financier and investor in distressed properties.

The 58-unit, two-story motel on the ocean — the only business in a town laden with condominiums — has been in foreclosure since February 2011 and its owners in Chapter 11 bankruptcy since March.

Delray Beach: CRA helps Chamber to move so property can be sold

The Chamber of Commerce will relocate from the old library site on Southeast Fourth Avenue so that the Community Redevelopment Agency can sell the property, appraised at $2.6 million, for development. Commission consensus supports the move.
The CRA board voted earlier to give the city $315,450 to help move the chamber to a new location, possibly in the commercial spaces of Old School Square Garage, according to documents filed with the city.

Briny Breezes: Board steers park away from potential sale

By Tim O’Meilia

Briny Breezes’ neighbors can rest easy. The oceanfront town-mobile home park has scotched any thought of high-rise condos and oceanfront hotels and will focus on a more low-key future — at least for now.

The nine-member board of the corporation that owns the park unanimously decided April 11 not to pursue the proposal by a Long Island developer to buy the park at a price to be named later.

“We did not have enough information on…

Delray Beach: Deal would open Hamlet club to Seagate guests, members

By Tim Pallesen

The owner of the Seagate Hotel and Spa has offered $7 million to buy the struggling Hamlet Golf and Country Club.

“We feel it’s a win-win for both sides,” said E. Anthony Wilson, chairman of the Seagate Hospitality Group, after making the offer to country club members on April 16.

The purchase already has been approved by the country club’s board of directors. Members will vote this month on whether to accept it.

Briny Breezes: Briny tells developer, ‘thanks, but no thanks.’

By Tim O’Meilia

About that plan to build high rise condos, an oceanfront hotel and shops where the mobile homes of Briny Breezes have set for decades?

Never mind.

The nine-member board of the corporation that owns the park unanimously decided April 11 not to pursue the proposal by a New York developer to buy the park at a price to be named later.

“We did not have enough information on the sales price or the cost that would be incurred for…

Briny Breezes: Builder proposes redevelopment without sale price

By Tim O’Meilia

Five years ago, a developer figured the homey oceanfront mobile home park of Briny Breezes was worth half a billion dollars if it were decorated with high rise condominium towers, a pricey hotel and several hundred time-shares.

He was wrong. Ocean Land Investments, the Boca Raton developer, couldn’t convince anyone beyond the town limits of that vision and the deal crashed, leaving unhappy residents, strained…

Briny Breezes: Developer pitches idea for condos, hotel

By Tim O’Meilia

Five years after a half-billion dollar sale collapsed, Briny Breezes’ 43 acres of ocean-to-Intracoastal mobile homes is on a land developer’s shopping list.

An unnamed development firm has pitched the idea of erecting twin 20-story towers and a 350-room hotel on the beach and constructing a row of three-story condos on the west side of State Road A1A — totaling more than 1,200 units — where rows of mobile homes now sit.

Briny Breezes…

South Palm Beach: Inn no longer listed for sale

The owners of the Palm Beach Oceanfront Inn — the only commercial property in South Palm Beach — have taken the 58-unit motel, restaurant and bar off the market.

The two-story motel has been in foreclosure since February 2011 and was listed on loopnet.com, a commercial real estate sales website, for a reported $12.95 million. The website has listed it as off the market since Jan. 27.

Briny Breezes: Park’s sale deadline approaches — but buyers don’t

By Tim O’Meilia

It’s been more than four years since the $510 million sale of Briny Breezes blew apart like, well, a mobile home in a hurricane.

And it’s not likely anyone will offer anything near half a billion dollars for the 43-acre oceanfront mobile home park in the 16 months remaining that the Duane Morris law firm has to sell the park.

“There’s no interest and they’re not marketing it,” Briny Breezes Inc. board President Mike Gut said of Duane Morris’ efforts.…
