The council scheduled executive sessions after its regular meeting to discuss the litigation.

Three neighbors named as plaintiffs — George O’Rourke, James Wood and Al…

“I think we all will join hands in kumbaya and introduce this ordinance,” said Boca Mayor Susan Whelchel as the council unanimously approved the first reading of the new law on Jan. 8.

But not so fast.…

The Caron Foundation wants coastal Delray Beach residents to testify how they blocked Caron’s attempt to house recovering addicts and alcoholics near the ocean.

Caron attorney Jim Green told a federal judge in April that trial testimony will reveal a “a hostile and organized community reaction to our attempt to locate in an affluent area near the ocean.”

Court papers show Caron has listed 72 potential witnesses in its federal…

Delray Beach: Judge hearing sober-house wrangle encourages compromise

By Tim Pallesen

The Caron Foundation can’t sue Delray Beach for denying a Seaspray Avenue sober house because the request hasn’t been officially denied, an attorney for the city argued in court.

The surprising twist came during an April 16 federal court hearing where the city also argued that Caron can’t claim a loss of income because it hasn’t placed recovering alcoholics and drug addicts into a second house where the city has given approval to…

The future of the Palm Beach Oceanfront Inn — which pitted neighbor against neighbor and roiled South Palm Beach politics for four years — is now in the hands of a foreclosure judge.

The owners of the two-story, 58-unit motel, restaurant and bar have been battling foreclosure since February when PNC Bank filed suit in Palm Beach County Circuit Court to collect on a $3.4 million loan.

South Palm Beach: Town ethics allegations cleared up, but inn case goes to court

By Tim O’Meilia

The Palm Beach Oceanfront Inn’s long-running battle with the town of South Palm Beach moved to the courthouse March 29, when the inn’s owners filed suit over the Town Council’s denial in 2009 of their plans to replace the two-story motel with a 10-story hotel-condominium.

The filing came three days before the state ethics commission cleared five town officials — including two council members — of conflicts of interest in dealing with the inn.

The lawsuit has… Continue
