Lantana: Artists sought for sculpture to be unveiled during town’s centennial celebration

As part of Lantana’s centennial celebration next year, the town is reaching out to Florida artists to create a nautical-themed sculpture for Bicentennial Park at 321 East Ocean Avenue.

Palmetto Park Road Bridge to close for 2 days

If you use the Palmetto Park Bridge regularly, make a note of this. On Wednesday, Jan. 29, the Palm Beach County Bridge Section will be closing the Palmetto Park Road Bridge over the Intracoastal Waterway in Boca Raton to vehicle and pedestrian traffic for 48 hours.

GreenFest not happening this year

While Lantana prepares for the bridge opening party on Nov. 16, it will not be having a GreenFest this year.

“When we started GreenFest, we anticipated that it would grow in popularity and attendance,” said David B. Thatcher, Lantana’s development services director. “The main objective was to provide information sessions on green living, saving energy and money.  The vendors were primarily a way to attract people.”

Ocean Ridge: Wish list items would mean further dipping into reserves

Ocean Ridge town commissioners continued to wrestle with how to pay for six “wish list” items that would cost $167,000 in next year’s budget.

Making all the wishes come true would mean dipping further into town reserves – up to $337,000 – or increasing property taxes above the current tax rate of $5.35 per $1,000 of taxable property value or something in between.

Holocaust Commemoration in Highland Beach on April 8

July, 16, 2012, marked the 70th anniversary of the Vel D'Hiv round-up. On July 16th and 17th, 1942, the French police arrested 13,152 Jewish men, women and children from the Paris area. Services set for former Boca Raton Police Chief Charles A. McCutcheon

Funeral services for former Palm Beach County Sheriff Charles A. McCutcheon have been scheduled for 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 23, with a Mass at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church in Boca Raton. On Friday, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., there will be visiting hours at Glick Funeral Home in Boca Raton. A burial service, with military and police honors will take place at Boca Raton Cemetery.

Boca Club Bridge closed for repairs until June 20

The Boca Club Bridge (Camino Real Road) over the Intracoastal Waterway (City of Boca Raton) is closed for bridge repairs  to all vehicle and traffic from 6 a.m, on May 26 to 6 p.m. on June 20. Traffic will be detoured via: U.S. 1, S.E. Mizner Boulevard, Palmetto Park Road and A1A.

Lantana Police Chief fired after DUI arrest


Police Chief Jeff Tyson was fired April 5 after his being arrested in Boca Raton on April 4 for DUI and leaving the scene of an accident.

    Official word of Tyson’s termination was announced in a statement from Town Manager Mike Bornstein, who wrote that Tyson had violated town personnel policies, including conduct unbecoming of a town employee and “off-duty abuse of alcohol, which adversely affects an employee’s job performance.”
